What is BASC?
- BASC
- Business Alliance for Secure Commerce -, is an international business
alliance, created to promote secure international trade in cooperation
with governments and international organization.
The BASC was created to address the problem of concealing contraband in
commercial trade. As a voluntary program for businesses, with no
government-imposed mandates, corporate participants are expected to
follow BASC's security standards which are designed to significantly
improve their security practices and in the process deter contraband
smugglers and terrorist from using their companies to introduce
contraband and implements of terror in legitimate shipments.
Advantages of BASC
(training and policies):
- Direct contact with customs: BASC has cooperation
agreements with customs from 15 countries; USA, México,
Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, El Salvador, Colombia, Venezuela,
Ecuador, Uruguay, Argentina, Dominican Republic, France, Spain,
and Italy.
- Customs process: the companies certified by BASC have
a date base that allows then permanent access to all the customs
worldwide to detect any potential risk. Thus, the time consuming for
the whole process is reduced significantly.
- Penalties: penalties and fines are greatly reduced
with the security
measurements applied to processes of production, and applied to
personnel as well.
- Training: all personnel get trained on anti-fraud and
anti-terrorist measurements.
